LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court has sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmad Bhachar, to 10 years in prison in connection with the May 9 violence case.

The verdict was delivered after the completion of a jail trial held at Kot Lakhpat Jail. The court found Bhachar guilty of delivering incendiary speeches and participating in arson and vandalism at Shareef Pao Bridge during the protests that erupted on May 9, following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

The court proceedings also revealed that the defence counsel for Dr. Yasmin Rashid, another prominent PTI leader, is scheduled to deliver final arguments tomorrow at 10 AM, after which judgements in her case and others will follow.

During the trial, testimonies from 61 government witnesses were recorded against Shah Mahmood Qureshi and 14 other accused.
